Types and Structure of Pheromones

How do different pheromones affect us

Think of pheromones as specific chemical compounds your body releases during key moments in life. When you’re having fun, your body produces more androstenol. When you’re sexually aroused, your body emits significantly more sex pheromones. A dominant individual tends to release high levels of androstenone, which causes people around them to become more compliant or submissive. Pheromones signal your current mood, emotional state, and sexual readiness to others. Not only your diet [85] and genetics [71], but especially your emotional state—everything you experience [88]—influences the scent of your body [87]. Your body produces pheromones as a means of informing others about your intentions. People subconsciously pick up on your attitude [89]. Women, for instance, can sense when a man is withdrawn or insecure [88]. They tend to prefer partners who “smell like a man”—meaning they emit specific semiochemical compounds, mainly androstenes [82,83,84,91]. Leaders, confident individuals, and dominant personalities naturally produce more of these substances than shy or uncertain people. Whether you intend to or not, you’re always subconsciously communicating something to those around you. By using selected pheromones, you can influence how others perceive you. When you apply androstenol, for example, people tend to view you more positively.
Science currently focuses on a few key compounds. Just as men and women produce testosterone and estrogen respectively, the human body generates pheromones from the same basic group. Using androstenes enhances perceived masculinity, while estrogen-based pheromones emphasize femininity.

Quantity vs. Quality of Pheromones

Sexual attraction can be triggered by applying a single pheromone—androstenol for women to spark male interest, and androstenone for men to attract women. However, research shows that personal magnetism is not driven by just one substance. To naturally draw others in, a combination of pheromones often works more effectively. Products that contain multiple pheromones not only increase sexual arousal but also create a positive social aura around the user. This influences how they’re perceived by both strangers and familiar faces. Multi-component pheromone products are widely and successfully used by salespeople, who notice increased success in selling; seniors, who observe more respectful and friendly interactions; and waiters, who receive higher tips. The right balance of pheromones can influence the emotional response of the person you’re talking to. A higher dose of androstenone enhances masculinity and sexual energy. Adding androstenol and androsterone tempers this effect, introducing a sense of friendliness and trust.

Do We Each Produce Different Pheromones?

There’s a common claim that synthetic pheromones can’t work because every person produces different chemical signals. The truth is that we all emit core pheromones like androstenol, androstenone, androsterone, and androstadienone. The differences between individuals lie in the quantities and proportions of these compounds. Laboratory-created pheromones are synthetic versions of natural human substances—they represent an average of what occurs naturally across the population. These synthetic pheromones are designed to reflect the most effective and biologically relevant patterns of natural human chemistry.
