Pheromones and Sport
Physical endurance is undoubtedly an essential element of any physical activity. It is conditioned by an enormous number of different physiological processes, with the most important changes usually occurring in the circulatory, respiratory and locomotor systems.
Endurance plays an important role in every sports discipline. Its biological foundation is physical fitness. The strength of the body consists of several physiological functions, such as:
– metabolic support of physical work
– ability to transport oxygen and energy substances
– ability to remove metabolic waste products
– the body’s thermoregulatory efficiency
– neuromuscular functions
– water and electrolyte balance[1]
It seems that finding a recipe for increasing physical endurance and strength could solve the problems not only of athletes and at the same time become a golden remedy for sporting success. Therefore, effective solutions began to be sought, which at the same time had nothing to do with the commonly known but, of course, illegal doping in sport.
Scientists from the USA have filed for a patent for a method to increase physical strength and endurance by inhaling pheromones during exercise [2].
Among the above-mentioned desired effects, the researchers noticed one especially important – reduction or even complete elimination of respiratory tract inflammation and bronchitis.
The observed results showed that human pheromones, Androstenone and Androstenol, can simultaneously effectively influence desired non-behavioural changes. An increase in the strength of the subjects was noted by at least 5-10%. The weight they lifted increased by 10-20% compared to the same exercises without the use of pheromones, and the number of repetitions in the exercise increased significantly from 5 to 20%.
